Scrap Electric Cars and Vans in Rotherham: Safe EV Collection
Have a battery-electric car or van that will not start, has accident damage, has failed its MOT or has become uneconomical to repair? ONAGONE accepts enquiries from Rotherham, the S63 area, Mexborough and nearby South Yorkshire locations. Our process starts with the exact vehicle registration, current condition and postcode. An enquiry is not a confirmed collection.

Can a damaged electric car be scrapped?
Yes, there is an authorised route for a genuine end-of-life electric vehicle, but it requires careful handling. A battery-electric car can contain a high-voltage traction battery with electrical and fire risks even if the car will not power on. A damaged or flooded traction battery may need a specialist assessment, safe storage and a receiving treatment facility equipped for the vehicle. Do not open, disconnect or dismantle high-voltage parts yourself.
Where there is smoke, heat, fire or an immediate danger, stay clear and call the emergency services on 999. Report suspected battery damage to ONAGONE before anybody attempts to load the vehicle. Environment Agency treatment guidance requires vehicle-specific procedures for high-voltage systems.
Information we need for electric car and van collection
- Registration and powertrain: identify the exact fully electric model, not a petrol or hybrid version sharing the same badge.
- Battery and collision state: explain any strike beneath the floor, water ingress, fire history, traction-battery warning or damaged charging port.
- Movability: say whether all wheels turn, whether steering works and whether the electronic parking brake can release. Do not force the vehicle into motion.
- Keys and charging: mention unavailable keys, 12-volt problems, charging faults and cables that will or will not be included.
- Location and access: give the postcode and details of low garages, narrow roads, steep driveways, blocked parking bays or high vehicle weight.
Electric scrap value versus battery and salvage value
There is no reliable universal scrap price for a Nissan Leaf, Tesla, BYD, Polestar or any other EV. A working, repairable electric car may have more value through an as-is resale or specialist salvage route. A severely damaged battery can instead increase the safety and handling burden. Before accepting an offer, check any outstanding finance, ownership interests and contractual battery rights, particularly for older leased-battery vehicles. No battery resale value is guaranteed by this guide.
Neither the vehicle's maximum authorised mass, a commercial van's advertised payload nor its battery capacity alone is a trustworthy scrap-weight estimate. ONAGONE must assess the actual registration, variant, state and suitable downstream collection arrangements. We do not buy stripped vehicle shells.
Choose your electric car make and model
Browse 83 electric-vehicle collection guides below. Each one has its own registration quotation form and advice about recovery, repair or lawful disposal. These links cover battery-electric cars and commercial vans, rather than ordinary combustion and hybrid versions. Electric vans can require larger, specially rated recovery equipment and clearance checks for high roofs, cargo areas and fitted workshop equipment.

Electric-car collection questions
Is it safe to tow an EV using a normal rope?
Do not rely on generic advice. Different models have their own transport and driven-wheel limitations. Tell ONAGONE exactly how the vehicle is immobilised so a competent operator can choose a manufacturer-compliant loading procedure.
My electric car will not charge. Does that mean the battery is scrap?
No. A charging failure may involve several components. A qualified diagnosis and comparison of repair, parts or resale options may be worthwhile before choosing end-of-life disposal.
What if the battery pack is damaged after a crash or flood?
Do not touch exposed wiring, reconnect a charger or dismantle the vehicle. Keep people away from immediate hazards and provide the history before arranging specialist collection. If smoke, fire or another immediate danger develops, call 999.
Can an ATF issue a Certificate of Destruction for an electric car?
A suitable authorised treatment facility must handle qualifying end-of-life vehicles and the applicable Certificate of Destruction process. Confirm it is equipped to treat high-voltage vehicles and retain your documentation. See the DVLA scrapping rules.
Does the ONAGONE quote mean a recovery vehicle is already dispatched?
No. A submitted valuation is a request. Availability, safety, agreed payment and collection details must be separately confirmed.
