Electric Vehicle Breakdown: What Recovery Needs to Know

Electric and hybrid vehicles may have specific manufacturer instructions for towing and loading, especially after an accident or battery warning.

What to do first

Do not touch orange high-voltage cables or attempt to move a damaged battery vehicle without appropriate specialist assessment.

Information to send with your recovery request

Provide the vehicle model, battery warnings, collision history, wheel condition and manufacturer recovery guidance where available.

Can ONAGONE collect it?

ONAGONE will only accept the job if the equipment and safety requirements are suitable; damaged high-voltage batteries may require specialists. ONAGONE considers vehicles up to 2,600 kg only where actual trailer, vehicle and towing weights meet all plated and legal limits. The vehicle must be suitable for safe loading.

Electric and hybrid vehicle loading checks

Different models have different recovery and transport modes. A discharged 12-volt battery can also prevent selection of neutral or release of an electronic parking brake. Tell us if the wheels are locked and whether the vehicle can enter its manufacturer-approved transport mode.

Collision or battery damage

Smoke, unusual heat, hissing, visible battery damage or a high-voltage warning requires specialist assessment and emergency assistance where necessary. ONAGONE will not treat a potentially damaged high-voltage battery as a routine breakdown collection. Share the manufacturer guidance and condition before any booking is accepted.
