Natural Isolates and Aroma Molecules
A perfumer may use a complex botanical extract or focus on a particular aromatic component rather than the whole source material.

START WITH THE IDEA.
An isolate is an individual substance obtained from a broader material. A fragrance composition may combine such substances with other aromatic materials to create a specific effect.
LOOK MORE CLOSELY.
The source of a molecule does not by itself determine its smell, quality or suitability. Both naturally sourced and manufactured substances require appropriate handling and assessment.
MAKE A CONSIDERED CHOICE.
If a fragrance is described using a plant name, remember that it may be an interpretation of that smell, not a promise of one particular extraction method.
YOUR OWN IMPRESSION.
Explore the craft vocabulary used around fragrance materials, composition and product development—without confusing creative terms with finished-product facts. This article offers general guidance rather than a claim about the ingredients, stock or performance of any unfinished XASIS fragrance. Finished products should be assessed using their own specific information.
